Ballston Spa — Sven "Rick " Peterson, Ph.D., 91, of Eastline
Road, died on Monday, August 5, 2013
peacefully at his residence.
A son of Swedish immigrants, he was born on October 17, 1921 in Getinge, Sweden to the late Gustav and Thensie (Anderson) Peterson. He was a graduate of Wadsworth High School, class of 1939. He earned a full scholarship to Harvard University after graduation, a great accomplishment during the Depression. In World War II, he was a flight instructor serving with the US Army Air Corps. After the war, he furthered his education at Columbia University where he earned his master's and Ph.D. He taught for many happy years as a professor at Union College in Schenectady, NY where he retired.
He was the warm, loving husband to the late Patricia Peterson (Dance Alliance organizer ); warm and loving father to the late Kersti Peterson; brother of Arnold (Jean) Peterson of Wadsworth, OH and the late Arthur Peterson. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His friends and family enjoyed his exceptional story-telling talent, his wonderful dry sense of humor, wit, as well as his artistic flare. He was an amazing man of great intellect, wonderful imagination, and great love of nature. He was loved and respected greatly and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
At Rick's request, there will be no calling hours and services will be held privately. Interment will be in the Eastline Cemetery, Malta, NY.
